Kind man rescues injured fox from side of road and they quickly become ‘best friends’

We often think of dogs and cats as the ideal pets because they’ve been domesticated and are accustomed to human lifestyles.

But for one man, it wasn’t a dog or cat that he brought home. Instead, he formed an unlikely bond with a wild fox, turning it into his closest companion.

This heartwarming story unfolds in Turnbridge Wells, England, where the Fox Project stumbled upon a fox in dire need of assistance.

Found severely injured and frail by the roadside, this fox’s plight was evident.

For those unfamiliar, the Fox Project is a renowned Wildlife Information Bureau and Fox Deterrence Consultancy established in 1991 in the UK.

They’ve even set up a Wildlife Hospital in 1993, where they care for approximately 700 foxes and 250 cubs annually.

The fox, affectionately named Cropper, was in a grim state.

Diagnosed with toxoplasmosis, releasing him back into the wild was no longer an option.

This left the organization with a tough decision to make.

They faced two choices for Cropper: euthanize him or find him a suitable home.

Given the wild nature of foxes, finding someone willing to adopt such an animal is no easy feat.

Yet, against all odds, a kind-hearted individual stepped up to the challenge.

Enter Mike Trowler, a retired engineer with a penchant for foxes.

He didn’t hesitate when he heard about Cropper’s situation.

Having always been intrigued by foxes and their behaviors, Mike welcomed Cropper into his home with open arms, treating him as a cherished member of the family.

Mike’s passion for rescuing foxes doesn’t stop at Cropper.

He’s dedicated to aiding wild foxes requiring medical attention and even assists fox cubs in regaining their strength before reintroducing them to the wild.

Under Mike’s nurturing care, Cropper thrived.

He ate from a dog’s bowl, lounged with Mike’s cats, and relished their outdoor walks. But what Cropper cherished most were the affectionate belly rubs from Mike.

Their bond was undeniable. Mike had adopted Cropper back in 2001, and for six joy-filled years, they shared countless memories.

Sadly, Cropper passed away, but his legacy lived on. Mike’s heart remained open, leading him to adopt another fox named Jack, who had also been rescued.

While Mike cherishes the unique bond he shares with his fox companions, he emphasizes a crucial message to the public: foxes aren’t typical pets.

The only reason Cropper and Jack stayed with him was their inability to return to the wild due to their conditions.

Rather than ending their lives, Mike chose to offer them a loving home, and in return, they became his dearest friends.
