Having any kind of medical procedure done can be a scary experience, especially if the patient is very young. You don’t always understand what’s going on, or what has to be done. Medical terms get confusing, and at the end of the day, all the patient wants is a little comfort and reassurance that everything is going to be all right.

That comfort can come in many forms. For many, it’s just a few words expressing love and confidence. For others, it’s knowing that there is a higher power at work. And again for many more, it’s the presence of friends and family and the support they provide.

But for little Esuendale of Nigeria, comfort comes in the form of song. Esuendale is a little kindergartener who was about to undergo leg surgery. His parents brought him to CUREkids, hoping the problem could be resolved.

In the operation room, the nurses prep him for the big moment. But one of the OR nurses took a special interest in not just Esuendale’s health, but his comfort as well. Amanuel sits down with the young boy and talks to him, asking him if he knows any stories.

But it’s when the two start singing the Nigerian national anthem that the brave boy seems to feel a little more at ease. He gains confidence all thanks to a kind nurse!
