A pair of extremely rare, white giraffes in Kenya have been captured on camera for the first time in recorded history! They are truly an incredible sight to behold.

In the video below, a mother and child can be seen wandering around the Ishaqbini Hirola Conservancy. The giraffes both suffer from Leucism, which is a genetic condition which prevents pigmentation from taking place.

Rumors had been circulating for sometime claiming that the white giraffe and her baby had been spotted in the area. It wasn’t until months later when conservationists filmed the video.

Despite their inability to produce their traditional colorful pigment, these giraffes and other animals suffering from leucism don’t have any genetic disadvantages to their survival.

More than half of all giraffes don’t make it past six months of age, according to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation. They’re targeted by predators such as lions and hyenas.

Now that the video is going viral, many viewers have raised concerns that the images of the animals and their location might encourage poaching.
